Put him back in the Closet.

All in favor of putting Dumbledore back in the closet, please leave a comment to that effect. I think Rowling's bringing this up was so pointless and ridiculous. In my heart, he will always be just plain old bachelor Dumbledore, full of wit and wisdom. I was just thinking about my fondness for the whole series and how warm and fuzzy it made me the night before she outed him. The thing that makes me the angriest is how she waited until after the major book sales were over to bring it out so blatantly. I cherished great admiration and respect for Jo before this. Badly done Ms. Rowling.

Richard Harris, aka "The REAL DUMBLEDORE" was never gay. Not a chance.

The new guy... maybe. Meh.

Sexual Preference is given entirely too much weight in determining our perception of ourselves and each other. There's no good reason for it to arise in a children's book.

Amen to that. I know Richard Harris was straight, as is Michael Gambon, the current Dumbledore. I was sad Harris passed away, though--he was a great Dumbledore.

The reason for this rant is that JK was recently asked by a small child, "Did Dumbledore ever find true love?" And she replied, "Dumbledore was gay. That's the great tragedy, he had to destroy Gellert Grindelwald, the love of his life." Nonsense. Poppycock. In the words of Syndrome from The Incredibles: "Lame, lame, LAME, LAME,LAME!"

Ya know, I'm not way into Harry Potter, nor have I ever been. But, I have read the first three books, which in my opinion, entitles me to an opinion, especially on this subject. I think Dumbledore as jenny said is NOT gay. He can't be. I think maybe J.K. rowling was out of responses to all the questions because I'm sure that the book tour was tiring, and that when asked this, she just finally started making up answers. :)

The all powerful master cannot be gay. Now I think of Dumbledore as more of a Cheerleader type character. No offense to cheerleaders. Now when I listen to the books on tape I feel like I should be eating raw steak or hitting something to prove that I am not becoming anything less than a macho man. Why would J.K do anything to change the opinions people have already formed about characters in the book. To me its like J.K. saying that Harry was really a woman, but liked to dress in mens robes. There was no need for this anouncement. Now Dumbledore will never be a real man again? The true death of a Hero.

I dont see any problem with Dumbledore being gay, it doesn't make him any less cool. Nor does being gay make you any less of a man.
